Program Notes

 

Fresh Air is a lively and rhythmically charged duet for trumpet and marimba, blending crisp articulation with a hint of tango flair. The marimba part features a continuous stream of sixteenth notes, creating an effervescent energy that propels the piece forward with its syncopated groove. Against this shimmering backdrop, the trumpet weaves bold, striking lines that dance with both euphony and playfulness.

Fresh Air was commissioned by Gary Scudder, band director at Stockdale Christian School (Bakersfield, California) as a loving gift to one of his students, Missy Camp, a trumpeter, as a present for her high school graduation, May, 2009.
